EMC Measurements & Regulations (RQ168-118-0)

SynopsisElectrical and electronic devices are capable of emitting electromagnetic energy either intentionally or unintentionally. National and international regulations are available on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and they have been enforced for many years to ensure that the products do not unduly pollute the environment with electromagnetic emissions. At the same time, the operation of some electronic devices may be easily interfered by these electromagnetic emissions. A standard on the immunity to these emissions may serve as a guide for manufacturer to ensure that their products will be able to operate in their intended electromagnetic environment.

Generally, products must conform to both the emission and immunity regulations before they can be marketed. The limits and test procedures for conformance are well defined in the EMC standards. However, EMC often involves measurement of extremely low power levels. Sufficient attention must be paid to the test procedures and instrumentation in order to compare results when tested at different locations.

What You Will Learn

  • EMC measurement techniques, compliance testing and management process
  • EU and US emission standards, their limits and EU immunity standards
  • The products and facilities for type for conformance testing
  • The equipment for EMC conducted emission compliance testing
  • The equipment to carry out conducted and immunity testing
  • Knowledge on the EMC regulatory requirements that manufacturers must comply with before an electrical or electronic product can be marketed in various parts of the world

Who Should Attend

  • technicians and engineers who are involve in product design, marketing, production, test, QA of electronic products
  • reliability and standards engineers
  • technical managers
  • system engineers
  • regulatory compliance engineers
  • others who need a working knowledge of EMC principles

PrerequisiteTechnical background or working experience in the field of electronic product manufacturing, testing or development.

Course MethodologyThe necessary knowledge on EMC regulations and test procedures will be presented in classroom style with simple and practical demonstrations of EMC measurements principles.
