    ISO 17025 Essentials - Part I: ISO 17025:2005 Interpretation, Explanations & Metrology Requirements (RQ155-121-0)

SynopsisISO 17025:2005 is a global standard for technical competence of calibration and testing laboratories. It is also the most important Metrology standard for test and measurement products. Almost all national standards bodies and accreditation agencies around the world have adopted it. A growing number of companies require it and some industries have incorporated it into sector specific standards including electronics, aerospace, automobile and pharmaceutical manufacturers. Most accreditation bodies that recognize the competence of testing and calibration laboratories use ISO 17025:2005 as the basis for their accreditation requirement. This seminar will provide an insight review and in-depth interpretation of each section in the standard from both Quality Management and Metrology System perspectives. Attendees will have appropriate knowledge learnt from this seminar to design, implement, deploy, execute, and maintain a Quality and Metrology control system that meets ISO 17025:2005 standard requirements.

There are two parts for the seminar. The first part is to examine and review the ISO 17025:2005 standard requirements including the management requirements and the technical requirements. The management requirements includes the management system, organization, documentation control, review of contract, subcontractor management, purchasing requirement, customer complaints, control of nonconforming testing and calibration work, improvement, corrective and preventive actions, control of records, internal audit, and management review. The technical requirements include personnel qualification, environmental conditions, test and calibration methods and method validation, estimation of uncertainty of measurement, control of data, equipment, measurement traceability, sampling technique, handling of test and calibration items, assuring the quality of test and calibration results, report the result, calibration certificate, opinions and interpretations, testing and calibration results obtained from subcontractors, electronic transmission of results, format of reports and certificates, and, amendments to test reports and calibration certificates.

The second part of the seminar deals with the Metrology requirements specified in the ISO 17025:2005 standard. We focus on the critical elements that impact measurement results including calibration interval program, in service check, OOT program, recall system, measurement uncertainty requirements, definition of TAR ratio, reliability target, traceability, standard management, test software management, editor file, test procedures, trending, calibration and/or test certificate format, sticker labels, ESD, and environmental requirement. We also will address the definition of the proficiency test program and/or inter-laboratory comparison test program.
